Important settings for Android devices
This guide explains how to configure essential settings on your Android device to ensure you receive alarms and notifications from Cosafe.
Having the correct settings on your mobile device is crucial to ensure you always receive alarms and notifications from Cosafe, even if your phone is in silent or Do Not Disturb mode.
The exact names and locations of settings may vary depending on your Android version and device model. If you cannot find the exact settings as described, look for similar terms and options.
Ensure notification volume is on
Cosafe’s alarm signal is a type of notification, so it’s very important that the setting below is configured correctly.
Note: This onyl applies if you have "Sound" selected under the settings "Sound and vibration".
- Open your phone's Settings.
- Navigate to Sound and vibration.
- Select Volume.
- Ensure the Notifications slider is turned up.
First-time setup in the Cosafe app
When you open the Cosafe app and log in for the first time, your phone will ask you to approve several important settings. These permissions are required for Cosafe to function correctly.
Step 1 – Allow notifications
To ensure you can receive messages and alarms from Cosafe:
- Tap Allow notifications, then tap Allow.
Step 2 – Allow Do Not Disturb access
To receive alarms even when your phone is in silent mode or Do Not Disturb, Cosafe must be allowed to manage this setting.
- Tap Allow.
- Scroll until you find Cosafe.
- Toggle the switch to enable access.
- Tap Allow.
- Return to the Cosafe app using the back arrow in the top-left corner.
Step 3 – Keep permissions
For Cosafe to function properly, it must retain its permissions even when not in use.
- Tap Go to settings.
- Disable Remove permissions if app is unused.
- Return to the Cosafe app.
Step 4 – Allow location access
When you send an alarm, Cosafe takes a snapshot of your location. To enable this:
- Tap Allow location access.
- Select Precise location.
- Select While using the app.
Final step – Test your alarm
- Tap Test the alarm.
- Follow the on-screen instructions carefully to complete the test.
For more detailed, step-by-step guidance, you can:
- Go to our article Test your alarm
- Watch the instructional video Test your alarm, available in Cosafe Academy.
Check and adjust settings when you're logged in
If you are already logged in, or if your alarm test failed, you can manually check whether any settings need adjustment.
- A yellow banner labeled Important app settings will appear at the top of the screen. Tap it to go directly to the settings.
Alternatively:
- Tap the menu button (three lines in the top-right corner).
- Select Important app settings.
Here you will see a list of key settings required for Cosafe to ensure alarms and notifications are received correctly:
- ✅ Green tick – the setting is correct.
- ❌ Red cross – the setting is incorrect and needs to be adjusted.
Tap Change to correct an incorrect setting. You will either be able to update it directly or be redirected to your phone’s system settings. Once corrected, the red cross will turn into a green tick.
If you switched to a new Android device
If you have transferred Cosafe from an old phone to a new one, you need to clear the app’s storage data. This resets the app to factory settings and allows you to reconfigure the required permissions.
To clear the storage data for the Cosafe app:
- Open your phone’s Settings.
- Search for or scroll to Apps and select Cosafe.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear data.
- Confirm by tapping Delete.
Settings for dual profiles
If you have both personal and work profiles on your Android device and aren't receiving notifications in silent mode on your work profile, it might be due to missing permissions.
Your IT department needs to update policies via MDM granting the Cosafe app Do Not Disturb access on the work profile.
If you have a workprofile and your IT haven't given you the permission seen above yet, you'll notice that when you try to enable "Bypass Silent mode" you can't see anything in the settings the app takes you too. Try the following:
- Uninstall Cosafe on the workprofile
- Install Cosafe on the private profile (in the private profile you have access to all the needed permissions)
